What Is Nugumi? The Mac Writing Assistant for Non-Native Professionals

You select text in any app and Nugumi explains what it means, drafts a reply in your voice, or polishes your writing so it comes out natural, error-free, and right in tone for the app you are in. It runs on a ChatGPT or Claude subscription, locally with Ollama, or your own API key.

What Nugumi does

Nugumi sits in your Mac menu bar and acts on whatever text you select. Three core actions cover most daily work: it explains dense or unfamiliar text in plain words, rewrites your own draft so it reads clearly and professionally, and drafts a reply to an incoming message in your style. A fourth action, Ask Nugumi, reads the visible screen when you ask a question like "what does this warning mean?" or "where do I click?"

Nugumi is built for people who work in a language that is not their first. If you read, write, and reply across languages every day and you are not always sure your message sounds right, Nugumi closes that gap. It is most useful for chat, email, support, sales, and any role where how you sound matters as much as what you mean.

How Nugumi is different

Most tools either fix grammar or live in another browser tab. Nugumi works inline, next to the text you already selected, and adapts the tone and the right action to the app you are in. There is no copy-paste loop into a separate chat box: you select, click the action, and get the result.

How to set up Nugumi

Pick the setup that matches your privacy, quality, and cost needs. Use local Ollama when privacy or cost matters and you want text actions to stay on your computer. Use a ChatGPT or Claude subscription, or your own API key, when you want stronger cloud models and screen vision. You can change the setup later.

How to evaluate Nugumi
